The cattle in the distance hardly even notice the passing of Amtrak's 40th anniversary exhibit train, as they snack on their morning breakfast of carrots. The train is only 16 miles into its run between Bakersfield and Los Angeles, as it passes through the high/wide load detector at MP 328.6 just east of Bena. The train consisted of P40 #822, NPCU #406 (ex F40PH), former 10-6 sleeper #10020, three refurbished baggage cars #10093, 10094, 10095, and an ex amfleet cafe #85999 being used as a gift shop. All the passenger cars were built by Budd Company between 1950 and 1976, with the sleeper having the distinction of being the oldest at 61 years.
