Remarks & Notes |
How 'bout them apples? Five units hustle a Tacoma-Saint Paul stack train east toward a crew change at Wenatchee where the rear three will be set out before the train continues its journey toward the Columbia and points east on the old Great Northern mainline. This quaint little town of just over 3000 was once and still is a major agricultural center in the heart of orchard country. The long brick wall at the left is a surviving fruit warehouse where GN 40 ft boxcars once hauled away innumerable crates of pears and apples. At right is the surviving 1903 built GN depot still standing in it's original location and still in the employ of the railroad some 108 years later. |
