Inseparable. White Pass Mikado #73 takes Rotary #1 in tow for a reverse run around the loop track in the Skagway Yard. After returning from a day of plowing, the Rotary Fleet was typically broken into two sections to facilitate servicing. Consolidation #69 remained coupled to Combine 211 and as seen here, the rotary remained attached to Locomotive 73. In addition to the normal couplers and air hoses, a rather stout-looking water line also connected the rotary to her primary pusher. Presumably, this line would enable the superheated steam engine, which would consume relatively little water during plow operations, to transfer water to the rotary, which typically would be working significantly harder than either of the pusher locomotives. During the 4-day period in which the rotary operated in 2011, she was never separated from Locomotive 73.
