Remarks & Notes |
Shay 4 works the light grade up the Leatherbark Creek valley about a half mile after leaving Cass in the pouring rain. The 4 is a 70-ton model Shay built in 1922 and came to Cass around 1940 where she was one of the mainstay locomotives of the final years of the logging operation until 1960. She has continued to serve the Cass Scenic RR well though now she is typically used as a helper or backup engine during the regular season since the line has acquired a number of larger, more powerful Shays. |
