| After the Soo was able to purchase the MN&S, EMD SW series units which had been absent from Upper Michigan for number of years made a comeback. Very few original Soo SW's were MU equipped and as they became older and a little more mechanically unreliable the Soo chose to base Geeps as yard switchers at most Michigan locations to keep from having to dead head SW's from Shoreham or N. Fond du Lac. The MN&S and later MILW SW's were MU equipped and soon made there way into switching service even as far as Sault Ste. Marie. |
