Remarks & Notes
The eastbound W&W "Sandman" was clawing its way up Round Hill, just east of Hayfield, VA, on April 21, 1980. The climb up Round Hill was brutal, but the climb up Gainesboro Hill was worse, requiring a double most days. The new bridge over Gap Run is evidence of the money sunk into the railroad by Unimin Corp.
