Remarks & Notes |
CPR always seemed to be in kind of a dilemma motive power wise. Never really sold on any model after the SD40-2. At least until the big GE purchases started. They bought 10 used SD40m's from MK in the 5490 series and some were built with SD40 internals but with an SD45 as the starting point. In any case it added a different look to the CPR and a picture of what might have been if the SD45 had caught on in Canada. Oddly enough when CPR was running COFC heavy trains 911-912 into Sault Ste. Marie they generally were powered with 4 axle units, but later on after the COFC was gone and the trains were much shorter this was relaxed and mainly 6 axle units worked into Sault Ste, Marie until the HC take over. |
