| The Soo's failed Lake States experiment is nearly over and in less than two months this will be Wisconsin Central trackage. The one thing Lake States did accomplish was allowing railfans the opportunity to relive the late 60's-mid 70's on the Soo in most of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.(minus the F-units) These lines had been assigned the GP9,GP30,GP35 fleets along with some older Milw. power. It was great while it lasted. In this shot 717 and 708 have a hefty 51 car train 12 just clearing the yard limits at Sault Ste. Marie. The old 30's are going to get a work out and 717 black at the stack is showing the strain. By this time most often train 12 consisted of anywhere from a handful to 25 cars, so this "monster" train was a surprise. |
