Remarks & Notes |
The Napa Valley Wine Train is operated by the Napa Valley Railroad and runs between Napa and St. Helena, Ca., a distance of about 36 miles round trip. The route generally parallels California State Route 29 for much of the route. The line utilizes ex-Canadian National MLW FPA-4 locomotives for power with extensively modified ex-Ski Train coaches for passenger accommodations. Napa Valley 70 and 71 smoke it up as they run around their train. The Napa Valley Wine Train converted the ALCO FPA-4s to burn 60% natural gas and 40% diesel fuel mixture to improve combustion and reduce emissions. In 2008, FPA-4 73 was converted to burn 100% Compressed Natural Gas. |
