| Narrow gauge 45 tonner #302 is lettered for the Oahu Railway though she was purchased by the US Navy in November 1944 and served her entire life on the island of Oahu for the US military. After the OR&L mainline was shut down in 1947 she and two sisters served for another 21 years running between Pearl Harbor and the Navy's Ammunition Depot at Laulaulei east of Nanakuli on 12 miles of former OR&L mainline. When the Navy shut down their rail operations in 1968 this locomotive and much other rail equipment formed the backbone of the newly established Hawaiian Railway Society after being donated by the Navy in 1975. To the left of the little unit can be seen the museum's pride and joy. Parlor Car #64 was built in 1901 in the OR&L's Honolulu shops and was President Benjamin Dillingham's finest rail accommodation. The spectacular car was restored to its former glory in 1994. |
