A hike in the snow along the Chessie Nature Trail was a beautiful way to spend Christmas afternoon. The trail is part of a former C&O branch that ran from the James River line at Glasgow (Balcony Falls) to a connection with the B&O at Lexington. The section between Lexington and Buena Vista survives today as the Chessie Nature Trail, offering hikers an abundance of beautiful mountain scenery as it follows the Maury River through rock cuts, woods, and meadows. In addition to the trail's railroad history, hikers are also able to enjoy views of a 19th century lock and dam.
