| Remarks & Notes |
| In torrential rain, 'Coronation' Pacific 'Duchess of Sutherland' doing what she was designed for - lifting Anglo-Scottish passenger trains up the 1 in 75 Beattock Bank in Southern Scotland on the West Coast Main Line. 6233 is having no trouble despite the adverse gradient and the wet rails. I wonder what designer Sir William Stanier would think if he knew that today's Pendolino EMUs cruise up here at around 90mph, offering a London-Glasgow frequency and journey time undreamed of in steam days. 6233 is hauling the 'Royal Scot' railtour from Stafford (in the Englidh Midlands) to Stirling, a historic town in Central Scotland. |
