| Circa the early 1950s ICRR 1516 was the usual power for the westbound local through Broadview, Illinois, my home town. The IC main had quite a grade out of town to get up and over the Indiana Harbor Belt. There was a busy interchange here as well. After switching the interchange and the yard, the 1516 crew would put their train back together and highball out of town up the grade. It was a sight to see and hear for sure. The crew saw me here many times and would put a show on for me as this picture illustrates. This shot sort of looks like an early pan shot but it wasn't intended; simply a 13 year old kid being so excited that he moved the camera! My camera at that time was either a Kodak Brownie or some other box camera...not very good. |
