Most days of the week you can find UP's switch job working the tideflats district of Tacoma. Headquartered in Fife, the crew works their way through Bullfrog Junction, crosses over the Puyallup River and negotiates with BNSF's East End yardmaster to begin working UP tracks and servicing the industries along the right of way.
Today the remote control job is seen working the Simpson Paper and Pulp mill. One of the sources of Tacoma's renown aroma, the mill is going full blast this afternoon. This particular stretch of tracks is street side running for a couple of blocks, sometimes making for interesting watching as the large number of trucks play chicken with the train. Photographs where trains and people mix, weather it's street running, plant switching or carrying a unit grain train out of an elevator, it will be put here.
