High desert horsepower. For most of its length, the Nevada Northern Railway traverses wide open spaces on high desert plains and the track is nothing but a straight line. The exception is the short few miles from Ely on south to the Mines District at Ruth. That stretch of the line is the polar opposite as it winds and twists through canyons in a nearly continuous climb. In this scene, NN's Consolidation #93 works about as hard as she ever does, hauling a heavy work train up the hill to the mines in a light snow shower. The load today starts with a steam wrecking crane that weighs every bit as much as 93 does. Add in all of the support gear for that hook, and the 101 year-old gal is huffing and puffing just a bit!
