Remarks & Notes
On July 12, 2010 Buffalo & Pittsburgh RR commissioned their new GS1400 locomotive. The former 1950's EMD SW9 Georgia Central #952. The re-build has twin engines with ultra low emissions. The locomotive is rated at 1400 hp. It is equipped with two 700 HP motors. The locomotive is capable of running on just one engine. The second engine will turn on via a computer only when needed and off when not needed. These engines will reduce locomotive engine exhaust and fuel consumption. this is the first genset locomotives built by a regional or short line railroad. Brookville Equipment supplied the genset assemblies in kit form.
