Some really nifty surprises can be found behind a railroad museum roundhouse. A good example is Rio Grande GP30 #3011, built by EMD in May 1962 and retired from service on the D&RGW in Dec. 1994. It would be sold to OmniTRAX in Feb. 1995, stored for several years in Kansas and Colorado, ultimately being donated to Colorado Railroad Museum in Jan. 2002. This photo just happens to be my 1,500th approved image on Railpictures.net! The subject is appropriate since the Denver & Rio Grande Western is my favorite railroad. Although 3011 is showing it's age in a big way, it is actually 8 months younger than the photographer! Here's hoping the D&RGW 3011 will receive a thorough restoration prior to it's 50th birthday.
