| When built in 1892, the southside "L" from Congress St south to 39th ST was already known as the "alley L". This NB Green line train is on the third track that was added in 1907. Around 1950, the CTA closed the station that was located here at 18th ST. 40 years later new steel stringers replaced a through girder structure that allowed for a station mezzanine immediately beneath the tracks. Intricate stories are contained in the steel record of Chicago "L" lines. |
