Scranton, PA, incorporated in 1886, is home to not only Steamtown but also the nation's first successful, continuously-operating electrified streetcar system which led to the nickname "The Electric City". The Electric City Trolley Museum can be seen in the background while the Steamtown Museum (left) showcases the city's rich railroad heritage At one time the DL&W, the Jersey Central, NYO&W, and the Erie had all built lines into the city to tap into the rich supply of coal. As coal mining came to an end and textile industries moved off shore, Scranton adopted a renewed interest in the it's history and classic architecture. The city also is flanked by mountains and consequently is in close proximity to several ski resorts.
