Utah Ry. #5005, an MK5000 model, rests in the sunlight at the Martin, Utah, enginhouse awaiting its next helper assignment. The photo was taken from the public road that crosses the tracks directly in front of the enginehouse looking through the stall to the 5005 outside at the rear of the shop. The Utah Ry. has 6 of these rare MK5000’s on its roster and they are the preferred lead units for all of the coal trains crossing Soldier Summit. Originally built with Caterpillar prime movers they now have EMD engines.
