| "Top Hat" GP38-2 smokes it up as it accelerates uphill with a cut of coal cars for the UNC Cogeneration Facility. The co-evolution of a number of industries and the railroad led to an odd arrangement of track in Carrboro. The yard has been reduced to two tracks and the southern end is now bordered by a restaurant called "Southern Rail." In this photo, the track branching off to the right runs past the opposite side of the restaurant and curves away toward the cogen plant. |
