Tracks into the lake? Well, not quite. At one of the less often photographed diamonds in the Carolinas, the WSSB crosses the former Yadkin RR, which swings out into the lake on a causeway, paralleling the WSSB on the shore. For the past half a century, the WSSB has used leased power - once from N&W and ACL - now from NS and CSX. This southbound will be stopping to remove a long cut of stored coal hoppers from the interchange track and replace them with a different cut. These stop signs don't see much service anymore, however. The old Yadkin RR is now just used for car storage by the Carolina Coastal. The days of daily trains down the causeway to the ALCOA plant at Badin are over.
