Remarks & Notes
I liked photographing in places where I didn't belong! Evidence of that fact is illustrated here. I was hiking along the eastern plant gate at Republic Steel Corporation's Chicago Works, when I spotted a pair of Alco switchers. I briefly stepped into the plant gate, where I photographed RSCX Alco S6 153 and one other Alco. It is a wonder that I did not get arrested for trespassing in those days! Republic Steel merged into LTV Steel and later went bankrupt. The Chicago works was mostly shut down and dismantled, although the coke plant stood for a long time in relatively good condition. The last two surviving Hullett bucket unloaders still stand at the site of Chicago Works, but who knows for how long? I am quite certain that the two little Alcos I saw that day have gone to meet their maker in Alco Heaven!
