A Nevada Northern local freight leaves the Mines District in Keystone for East Ely Junction, some seven miles to the north. On point today is Nevada's official State Locomotive: Baldwin #40. The ten-wheeler turns 100 years old this year and while she does need some serious running gear work, she's held up pretty well over the last century. The same cannot be said for the old code lines that follow the tracks on the Mines Branch. Some of the cross arms on the utility poles are darn near falling off and the wires....well, the wires are everywhere. If you look closely in this shot, you'll see some that are still hanging in their proper place and some that are darn near in the weeds in front of the photographer. Below the pole itself, the wires are just hanging loose and blowing in the wind!
