We're baaaack! After a three-year hiatus, the Nevada Northern Railway Museum was once again able to roll out both of its steamers for a weekend of winter photography. Heavy freight locomotive #93 underwent a total rebuild of its running gear during 2008 and 2009 and is now considered to be in very good condition. The high-stepping #40 was also sidelined as ultrasound inspections initially indicated she had cracks in two of her axles. Subsequent studies have revealed that these were inclusions in the steel, which had been there since manufacture. While she still needs the same sort of running gear overhaul that 93 had, she's been cleared for limited service until the funds can be raised to perform the work. In celebration of the return of the museum's full roster, the two steamers performed this simultaneous departure from the East Ely Engine House for assembled photographers at sunrise on 6 February, of 2010.
