| Winter Time:
128 loads of Coal make their way up the approx. 1% grade on the Manor Branch having just loaded at Consol Energy's Bailey / Enlow Fork loadout. Last year over 20 million tons of coal were shipped from the loadout. A somewhat rare standard cab SD60 is on the point today followed by a DASH-8. The units are down to a crawl in Notch 8 with two ES40DC helpers shoving on the rear fighting the slippery rail conditions caused by the snowiest February on record for this area of the state. What is usually a five minute climb for me turned into a 30 + minute trek through sometimes waist deep snow to get to the photo location. |
