This is how the South Shore (not today's SouthShore) serviced a freight customer with a facing point switch on the freight only street trackage. Passenger service had been cutback to Bendix in the spring of 1970 but at least one customer still remained on the street trackage. Boxcabs 702 and 701 split at the small Bendix yard and Milwaukee Road 54766 was sandwiched between them. 702 leads the one car train onto Colfax Street with 701 trailing. Once at the industry, 702 will run into the clear on the old mainline and 701 will shove the car to spot. Work completed, 701 will double to 702 and the units will run light back to Bendix. I always thought it appropriate that a Milwaukee Road car split the orange electrics. 701 and 702 were originally NYC Class R-2 and they retained the same class designation after coming to the South Shore.
