Remarks & Notes
Mathieson Chemical Corporations 2-8-0, shows off her newly completed cosmetic restoration. The 2-8-0 turned 117 years old in June, and is the oldest surviving N&W steam locomotive. She started as N&W 305 built at the Roanoke Machine Works before they were purchased by Norfolk and Western Railroad. In June of 1921 she was purchased by the Mathieson Alkali Works in Saltville, VA and was retired and donated to the town in 1961.
