46 Years Later A recreation of Marty Bernard's 1964 photo, not too much has changed since the later days of the CB&Q. The platform was removed on this side of Main Street, platform shelter removed from the outbound side, the station's roofline modified, new signs placed on the station, modern gates installed, and a wire fence in place of the fancy black iron one. I also took this while Christmas decorations were up downtown.
Contrary to the information in Marty's shot, only the front of the central portion of the station was changed after the Zephyr wreck of 1947. As you can see, it is taller than the rear central portion and sports a slightly different roofline style.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
