Remarks & Notes
N&W 693, 2903 (former NKP 903) and one other unidentified EMD unit kick up the dust as they pound across the DT&I diamond at 40 MPH. The dark signal is the train order signal that flashed either red or green and just so happened to be between flash cycles when I snapped the shutter. Train WJ-01 is running north (timetable WEST) over the Ann Arbor Railroad in a trackage rights agreement that dates back to the Wabash steam era. This train was recrewed at the former W&LE Homestead Yard in Oregon, Ohio (Toledo), and entered the Ann Arbor westbound main at Manhattan Jct. It then ran west about 32 miles over the Ann Arbor to Milan, Michigan, where it connected to the former Wabash double track Detroit-St. Louis mainline. At Milan, the train's timetable direction changed from WEST to EAST (yes, really!) and finally terminated its run at Oakwood Yard in Melvindale, Michigan.
