Over ten years after the Conrail split there is (thankfully) only one blue unit left in the Johnstown-Altoona helper pool. This fine specimen, patches, chipped paint and all, was built as Conrail 6389 in August of 1977, and on this night sits on the back of an eastbound Pennsylvania Power and Light coal train. Thanks to the white stuff and the holiday season crews are at a premium, and this train came up short. The headend would be recrewed about an hour and a half after the picture was taken by the crew off of a 592 parked about a mile to the west.
