When Amtrak #6 blew for the road crossing a mile or so west of Price, Utah, I knew something didn’t sound right. When it hove into view a minute or so later and came out from under the highway overpass I knew why. #6 was being led by UP 8072, an EMD SD9043AC. I have seen many UP freight engines leading Amtrak over the years, but never one of these big EMD AC units. The train was running about 4 hours late.
