A Grande heritage in Alaska A close up view of the friction bearing trucks on former ARR boxcar #11021 reveals the original owner of this 1943 vintage troop sleeper. After the war, this car was acquired by the ARR and converted to a boxcar where it served in freight service for decades. Sometime, long ago she was sold or donated to the Army where she now resides forlornly on a siding on the Ft. Richardson Army base. still equipped with her original friction bearing trucks. She just might be the last one so adorned as her few remaining sisters that serve in MofW service on the ARR have long since had their trucks swapped out for more modern (and safer) roller bearings.
