Remarks & Notes |
Here is a collection of some of the lamps and lanterns we used for the night shots. They were all gathered together in the Nevada Northern engine shops to dust and clean them up before we attempted to light them off. From left to right, DRG&W lantern made by Handlen Buck, a Dressel switch lamp with red and yellow day targets with corresponding red and yellow lenses, an Adams and Westlake (aka Adlake) fork mounted switch lamp with the kerosene tank mounted out side the body of the lamp with red and green lenses, and a somewhat standard Adlake post mounted switch lamp also with red and green lenses. This motley collection of rusted metal doesn’t look very impressive shown here in the harsh sunlight, but when evening starts to fall, their brilliant, piercing colors really begin to blossom. Image originally produced for Railroads Illustrated piece titled "Kerosene and a Little Imagination" that ran in their May 2009 issue on page 40. Feb. 10th, 2009.
