Remarks & Notes
On a gloomy autumn day, a fly fisherman casts for trout on Esopus Creek below Catskill Mountain Railroad's Bridge C-30. This bridge, originally built by the Ulster & Delaware Railroad, is currently out of service primarily because the near pier has been undercut by strong currents, causing the west end of the second span to settle. The distant pier and the abutment on the far shore are obviously hardly in any better shape, and the cost to repair the structure is estimated to be $3 million -- a long-term goal the all-volunteer operation plans to achieve. Photo from railroad property taken with permission. Scanned from Provia 100F.
