Remarks & Notes
What makes the Landwasser Viaduct site one of the railroad wonders of the world is this incredible vertical cliff where the tunnel meets the viaduct. I imagine that nobody ever took a train picture from the face of that cliff. Who will be the first rock climber railfan? The question that everyone asks is: how might one imagine that a railroad could be built in this world of stone and rocks? Look for Filisur, Switzerland on Google Earth and you will see why the track had to be built right there – interestingly, there is almost one hundred pictures of the viaduct on Google Earth. For the passengers on this Eastbound Glacier Express (Zermatt-St Moritz) the wonderful sightseeing will be suddenly cut by the transition from day light to tunnel blackness. The engine is a 2300HP 1973-built meter gauge version of the ubiquitous Re 4/4 II.
