Valley Railroad #97 pauses with her train at Deep River Landing to allow passengers to connect with the Connecticut River Cruise Ship Becky Thatcher. While the Trainmen attend to the passengers, the Locomotive Fireman is seen here alighting from the cab to disconnect the consist. Shortly, the engine will pull forward into the rock cut, switch on to a passing track and run around the train in preparation for the return to Essex Depot. The Valley Railroad is the only tourist railroad that this photographer is aware of that offers a scenic rail excursion, combined with a riverboat cruise.
