A Utah Railway IPP coal empty cruises east through the sunshine on Feb. 28, 2009 at Kyune, Utah. The weather here can be rather 'bipolar' along Soldier Summit. When my dad and I would chase the Rio Grande Zephyr back in the 1970's, weather conditions could be dark and overcast on the west side of the pass with brilliant sunshine on the east. The west side seems to receive more precipitation than the east slope, however both sides can be equally plastered by one storm system. For the Winter of 2008-09 the Price Canyon side seems to be dryer than Spanish Fork Canyon so images with deep snow at Kyune are less common.
