| Earlier in August of '75 during its nationwide tour, the AFT duties had been handed off by the RDG 2101 (AFT #1) to the SP 4449 when the two rendezvoused at Proviso. But it almost didn't happen. The 4449 might've missed that date due to a near-catastrophe in June when a dump-truck pulled into it's path in Nebraska enroute to the midwest. Thankfully it was a minor clip and repairs were made to the sheathing on the fireman's side by August, in time for the 4449 to make an appearance on this part of the tour. In this view she strains the iron of the old Q-branchline, on display 8/8-8/10/75 in Rockford. |
