Remarks & Notes
The hard work is pretty much done as Mt. Washington Railway #2 "Ammonoosuc" enters the homestretch flats, roughly a half mile from the summit. Here, she passes the remains of the old Gulf Tank, a structure that was dismantled a number of years back and not completely removed. The need for the high altitude water stop was eliminated with the introduction of of larger tenders on the locomotives. In the background, the cloud ceiling hangs low over Mt. Clay and Mt. Jefferson. The precipitous drop-off behind the train is called the Great Gulf.
