Erected by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1891, this plaque commemorates the first steam powered railroad movement in the state of New Jersey in 1831. Originally located along an isolated portion of the former Camden & Amboy tracks, this stone monument was moved to a prominent location in downtown Bordentown by the Penn Central Railroad in 1970. The former Camden & Amboy line that hosted the first steam powered train now see a local Conrail freight three nights per week.
