Looking RR east. Road to right is US-20. Rath displayed SD East almost continuously since it was the first open train order station east of Waterloo. The track crossing in the foreground was called "the juice line" (for the electrified Waterloo, Cedar Falls & Northern, as I recall). The tower's namesake was the Rath Packing Company, which was a source of traffic for the Illinois Central.
Rath also controlled Hilltop, where the double track ended about a mile to the east, with a small US&S board.
