| Three relics of a bygone age - A4 Pacific 'Union of South Africa' passes the very distinctive North Eastern Railway signalbox (tower) and footbridge at Haltwhistle, between Newcastle and Carlisle. Note that the brick base of the 'box is considerably narrower than the 'box itself. Another unusual feature of the station is the staggered platforms, with the eastbound platform being behind the train. |
