In 1881 the Bodie & Benton took delivery of a 2-6-0 locomotive, No. 3, from the Union Iron Works. While the railroad, the locomotive, and the track has been scrapped, No. 3's tender tank survives. This is the original 1881-vintage gold-leaf lettering on the left side of the tank, nicely preserved by the dry climate of the Nevada desert. The tank sat at Mono Lake, California until several years ago. It is now preserved at the Iowa Trolley Park in Mason City, which is constructing a replica of another Union Iron Works loco, the V&T "Lyon" of 1869.
