Remarks & Notes
This was the first time a 'Tait' set had visited the newly electrified section from St Albans to Sydenham, and to date is still only one of two visits: there have been no preserved EMU tours in Melbourne since early 2004, due to lack of a willing operator. A newly refurbished M>Train Comeng set sits alongside the special. Nine months after this photo was taken, this same Comeng car (394M) was the lead vehicle in one of the worst run-aways in Victoria's history, rolling about 15km from Broadmeadows to Spencer Street, where it collided with diesel locomotive N463 causing very extensive damage. Amazingly it was repaired, and is still in service at the time of writing. You can see an image of the accident in photo id:336263.
