| On well maintained track, lengthening afternoon shadows draw the outline of 90351, one of the 730 'Austerity' 2-8-0's. She plods wearily north from Royston with another load of coal from the Barnsley coalfield. The drifting sulphrous haze from Royston's coking plants is a pungent reminder to outsiders that Royston is a good place to 'come from' and not necessarily to 'go to'! Sadly, in 2008 the last sentence still holds true. |
