One of the most remarkable movements I have seen took place in 1980. LNWR 2-4-0 no. 790 Hardwicke, "Royal Scot" no. 6115 Scots Guardsman and Midland Compound no. 1000. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway, a special exhibition was arranged at Liverpool Road Station. Vareious historic locos were displayed. After the exhbition closed, these three ran together to the now-closed Dinting Railway Centre. Apart from making their way to the exhibition, I doubt if there was ever another occasion of this combination. I believe that this was the last time Scots Guardsman ran on the main line. Fortunately, it has recently been undergoing restoration at Carnforth and is shortly to return to the main line.
