Remarks & Notes
For the very first (and probably the last) time two German Pacifics are storming up the northern ascent ( 2.6 % grade) to the Gotthard tunnel. The leading 01 202 is a coal fired two cylinder version and based in Lyss/Switzerland, the second engine, producing a enormous cloud of thick black smoke, is the heavy fuel oil burning 01 1066 (three cylinder) of the german Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde. Because the upper part of the chimney had to be removed because of the low clearance on the Gotthard line, the 01 1066 didn't perform very well and 01 202 had to do much more than half of the job!
