The Southern Pacific had been trying to abandon the "Lark" for sometime, but in March of 1967 they had not yet succeeded. Still carrying an RPO, the train is being worked at San Jose. A little over a year later, shorn of its RPO, the SP was allowed to drop the train. FP7 6460 did not survive to go to Amtrak as it was destryed in an accident. This photo was used on the opening page of the late Rob Carlson's Altamont Press for several years.
