| With it's normal P42 (#112) suffering a traction motor failure and locked axle (and stranding its cars and Cabbage Car up north), the Central Coast Surfliner heads to San Luis Obispo with substitute bookended P32BWHs and a fleet of scrounged together Amfleet coaches and a Horizon cafe car. These Dash 8s were delivered to Amtrak in 1991 and were a stop-gap order before GE could get a pure passenger design engine (the AMD-103 or P40) into production. |
